WSO ‘on tour’

After sell-out crowds at the end of our 40th anniversary year for our Autumn Concert and Christmas Concert, we are excited to see what 2025 will hold. Our first concert will be a little different to normal, and we hope many of our local followers will join us. We're delighted to be going ‘on tour’ to Ely Cathedral to join Ely Choral Society and Grantham Choral Society to perform Verdi's Requiem. Soloists will be Tara Bungard (soprano), Cassandra Manning (mezzo-soprano), Thomas Elwin (tenor), and Alastair Miles (bass). Written in memory of the Italian writer Alessandro Manzoni, Verdi's Requiem was considered to be "too operatic" to be performed in religious service so it is normally presented in concert form, and it is certainly a dramatic piece! Requiring the scale of 2 full choirs plus the orchestra and soloists, it is an emotional roller-coaster from the penitential prayers for peace for the soul of the deceased, to the stormy drama of the day of judgement in Dies Irae.

Looking ahead to the summer, save the date 28 June 2025! We'll be performing Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6, "Pathétique" alongside Liszt Rákóczi March and Dvořák Cello Concerto in B minor (for which we're delighted to welcome back soloist Ben Rogerson). It will be a bittersweet event because it will be the last concert with our Musical Director of the last 20 years Andrew Parnell. Please join us to make this summer concert a night to remember!

Stay tuned for news on our Musical Director recruitment, which is progressing throughout the first half of 2025.

Wymondham Symphony Orchestra...

is a friendly, lively and ambitious group of musicians that plays regular concerts at a variety of locations within the Norfolk area. We have received much critical acclaim for our sensitive and involving perfomances.

We attract members from all walks of life and provide them with the satisfaction of playing in an ensemble that has the skill and confidence to play exciting and demanding works.

We have built up an enviable reputation, and are able to attract professional soloists of the highest calibre. We also encourage young talented soloists from Norfolk to play with us, often their first concerto with a symphony orchestra.

Generally, we play three concerts a year, although we occasionally undertake additional events. We also hold an annual Open Rehearsal (see the Rehearsals page for more details) and have regular social events. It’s not just about making music - we also like to have fun!
